Final Round
Parrish comes from behind to win the
Alpine Pro Design Championship

Jeff Appleby presenting Champions Check to Tony Parrish
With the final day weather looking much like round #1, the
players were going to have to deal with another day of 30 mph wind.
Tony Parrish started the day 4 shots out of the lead but
was playing in the last pairing of the day with Rocky Rockett and
leader Rich Weston. After playing the front nine at even par, Parrish
had only picked up a single shot on Weston. On the closing nine, Weston picked
up a birdie on 13 to put Parrish back to 4 shots down. Parrish birdied 16 to
get back to 3 down with the treacherous 17th next to play. Parrish was feeling
that he would need to birdie out to have a chance to tie Weston. Parrish hit a
perfect drive over the water leaving him 300 to the green. Weston had been
struggling with his driver all day and needed to hit a good drive to force
Parrish to birdie. As fate would have it, Weston hit a poor drive that ended
up in the water hazard and made a double bogie while Parrish managed a par.
Going to the final hole, Weston still held the lead by a single shot going to
18. Hitting first, Parrish hit his drive thru the fairway. Weston hit a
perfect drive in the middle of the fairway leaving a middle iron to a front
flag. Blocked by trees, Parrish managed to advance his ball just short of the
green. Weston's shot to the green left him a 35' down hill putt. Parrish
chipped his ball 15' past the pin but made the putt. Weston left his putt 6'
short and miss the putt for the win.
THE PLAY-OFF
Following the final group signing and verifying
scorecards, Parrish and Weston were indeed tied at 147. The playoff
began on #10 where Parrish and Weston both made remarkable up & down pars. On
#11, a 572 yard par 5, Parrish a perfect drive down the right side of the
fairway. Weston blocked his drive which ended up in the water hazard. After
taking a drop, Weston hit a perfect shot 260 yards to an opening in front of
the green not more that 20 yards wide with disaster lurking on both sides.
Parrish laid up then hit a perfect wedge to 8' above the pin. Weston hit his
pitch long leaving him a 10' par putt which was directly on Parrish's line.
Weston made his par putt as Parrish missed his birdie putt. Both players made
pars on #12 and proceed to #13. With Out of Bounds left and water hazard
right, Parrish stepped up on the narrow 394 yard par 4 and piped a driver dead
down the middle 294 yards. Weston hit his hybrid to the 150 marker and his his
second shot on the green leaving him a 30' putt up hill. Parrish hit his wedge
to 8' right of the cup. Weston missed his birdie putt and was left with a 5'
putt coming back. Parrish hit his birdie putt into the middle of the hole to
win his 3rd GSGT event in 2008.
Tony Parrish takes home the Champions check of

Round #1
Weston Leads Alpine Pro Design Championship

Rich Weston of Pawley's Island, SC battle 30 mph winds
and came out on top of the field. Rich was the only player to have one
nine under par as he played his first nine holes in
-4 under 32.
The final nine caught up to Rich and the course decided to take some of
those stroke back as he recorded a closing 4 over 40.
Rich's even par 72 was good enough to take him into Wednesdays round
with a 4 lead as he pairs up with Parrish an Rockett for a final day
showdown.
