Final
Atkinson wins
play-off for his first GSGT Victory
With improved conditions, scores improved dramatically for the
field. Today's scoring average dropped to 77.6 which was 6 shots better than
yesterday.

Playing in front of the final paring, Zach Atkinson of
Mt. Zion, SC started the final round 6 shots back of first round leader
Matt McIntyre of Garland, NC. Zach finished the front nine with a 1 over
37. With birdies at 10, 11, & 15 his only bogies on the back nine came
at hole 13 as he managed a solid -2 under
34 on the back nine for a
71 on the day and a two day total 4 over
148. Setting on the lead in the club house with McIntyre still on the
course, Zach waited in hopes of a victory or play-off.
With the final scores tallied, Atkinson and McIntyre were both
tied at 148 and heading back out for a play-off to determine the champion. The
play-off started on #1 and went to the 4th hole, a par 3, where Matt hit his
tee ball short of the green and into the water hazard. Zach pulled his tee
shot left of the green. Matt found his ball half under water on the oyster
shells and decided to hit it out. The shot came out of the water but was short
of the green. Zach hit his second shot long and had a difficult par putt.
Matt hit his third shot leaving a putt for bogie that he missed. Zach missed
his par put but won the hole and the play-off with a bogie.
Zach receives the Champion's check of $1800
Matt receives the runner-up check of $1000
THE GSGT CONGRATULATES ZACH ON HIS

Rex Willoughby of Lumberton, NC made the biggest move
today to Double-Dip the both money pots. Rex's final round of
-2 under 70,
149 total, moved him up into sole possession of 3rd place money of
$700. Rex also cashed in on the Out-Of-Money pot winning an additional $175.
Kyle Helms of Sparta, NJ fired a final round 1 over
73 for a two day total 150 which was good enough for 4th Place and
the final money spot of $400
Round #1
McIntyre fires 71 to lead
by 4

Today was a day of patience and confidence. Every player on the
course today fought his own personal demons. It was bad enough that it was 45*
when the first group tee off but the constant 25-30 mph wind made it feel like
30*. It was a day when the combination of fast undulated greens, tucked pins
and blistering winds sent tour scoring average soaring to 83.2.
Tour player
Richard Cox said it best; "It is going to be a war out there."
As shot making came at a premium today, only Matthew
McIntyre of Garland, NC was able to beat the elements and the course to
fire the only sub par round. With a solid 36/35,
Matthew's -1 under
71 leads the field by 4 shots.
Tour owner Steve Clark of Myrtle Beach was able to hold
on to 2nd place with a solid 3 over 75 to lead the #1 Player on the GSGT
Tour, Tony Parrish of N. Myrtle Beach by a single shot.
Four players are currently tied for 4th at 5 over 77.
Round #2 will start @ 7:40 AM Tuesday morning. The
professionals are competing for a $3500 purse.
